Summer Fun Just Around the Corner

Art Services and the New Westminster Museum and Archives are excited to showcase their “hot-off-the-press” summer program brochure.  Both departments worked closely with local designer Johanna Bartels, to create a fresh new look.

“Johanna is a delight to work with and truly understands her community and their needs.  She is a terrific designer who has found elegant solutions to the various challenges our two departments have faced when communicating not only the “nuts and bolts” of our programs but also our goals, values and successes,” stated Hannah Bennett, Arts Programmer.

Royal Printers, a New West based business will be printing these quarterly brochures using their Sugar Sheet paper which is made from waste sugar cane fibre (also known as bagasse) and is 100% forest-free.

Some Art Service highlights this season include over ten summer camps to choose from for a variety of ages, an all ages New Westminster Pride and Printmaking workshop (to be held before the NW Pride Parade August 17) as well as the adult Summer Singles Yoga options.  There are a variety of great adult arts programs including an outdoor sketchbook series, a painting intensive weekend as well as a “hipster” stained workshop with Awesome Sauce Designs.

The Museum and Archives is proud to present summer programming across three distinct sites – Anvil Centre, Irving House, and Samson V.  From kids and family programs to adult walking tours, there are opportunities for all ages and interests.  NWMA looks forward to working with longtime partners including Valerie Malla of SFU’s Philosophers Café and Fraser Cemetery for Saving Our StonesCKNW’s 75th Anniversary Celebration at Anvil Centre on August 15 has blossomed into a full day event with Global and CKNW partnering with our City Archivist.  A Pollination Workshop at Irving House in collaboration with UNIBUG of Douglas College is scheduled for August 18 and the next feature exhibition You Are What You Eat!
