Winter Sled by Maud Lewis Paint & Sip Night
December 6, 2018 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
$40Maud Lewis’s colorful and charming depictions of rural Yarmouth and Marshalltown, Nova Scotia, where she spent her life. Lewis is referred to as a folk artist whose work was persistently cheerful despite her arthritic pain and poverty. She gained celebrity towards the end of her life thanks to a CBC documentary, news coverage and a request from the US government to buy her work. After her death and that of her husband, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia acquired and restored the one room house in which they lived. The house is on permanent display inside the gallery. Lewis’s life and work has been the subject of a 2016 feature film “Maudie” It is also being featured by the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in June 2017, with a large retrospective exhibition. As always, our paint & sip nights include a glass of wine or beer and light snacks to help you relax and enjoy your evening. We provide all the paint supplies and our artist takes you step by step through the painting. No painting skills necessary, just a fun evening that’s almost more about the party than the paint!
