Show us Your Community Spirit at the Hyack International Parade – Saturday, May 26
Tap into the “Spirit of Community’ at this all-ages family event! It’s British Columbia’s largest parade! Filled with over 120 entries including arts groups, charities, schools, and entertainers from all across BC and the Pacific Northwest. A free multicultural entertainment and community engagement event that’s open to everyone. Head over to Uptown on Saturday to enjoy the festivities!
Explore the Hyack Uptown Street Festival – Saturday, May 26
Watch the parade, then keep the fun going! Wander over to Belmont St. to enjoy the 5th Annual Uptown Street Fest. Celebrate with incredible food, free face painting, and entertainment. There’s even an artisan marketplace, you can sift through while you explore everything our bustling Uptown has to offer.
Put on your Best Sunday Bonnet and join the New Westminster May Day Community Heritage Picnic – Sunday, May 27
Pack your picnic basket, and put on your best smile and spring bonnet! Come together with the community at this year’s heritage picnic in the historic Armoury of The Royal Westminster Regiment. Recreate the original 1970s May Day, where citizens of all ages gathered together to welcome spring and celebrate their community spirit. Participate in Trivia, and take in dance performances by the May Queen Suites and the Royal Lancers, as well as the Royal Knight Honour Guard.
Take a Peek at our Past at the 39th Annual New West Heritage Homes Tour – Sunday, May 27
The much-anticipated tour returns! Glimpse our history as you tour impressive architectural homes throughout New West. From an Arthur Erickson-inspired mid-century classic in Massey Heights and a charming Victorian-era cottage in Queen’s Park to the “that ‘70s house” on McBride. Explore New West through the ages. This year, you can also take a rare look at the artifacts at the Royal Westminster Regiment Museum. In honor of the 100th anniversary of the end of WW1, they’ll be opening their doors to tour guests at 9 am.
Delve into the Past with Board Games Then and Now – Saturday, May 26
Dive into the past with old school games and toys at the New Westminster Museum and Archives. Bring the whole family down at 1 pm. Learn some new games, try out old toys, and check out the museum’s old-fashioned collection. Enjoy your blast from the past game night!
