Kathleen Harvey is the Manager of Visitor Services for Destination BC and a proud resident of New Westminster.
I love waking the tree-lined streets of the Queen’s Park neighbourhood, where countless well-preserved homes dating back to the late 1800s remind me of our City’s historic grandeur.
New West is BC’s oldest incorporated city and the early settlers, business owners and politicians built fine homes in this area due to its proximity to the cultural hub of the day – Queen’s Park, and the downtown commercial district. Today, this heritage neighbourhood is easy to get to even if you don’t live in the City – it’s just a few blocks up the hill from the SkyTrain.
Want to experience this for yourself? The New Westminster Historical Preservation Society produces an annual Heritage House tour. Save the date for the 2019 tour- it will take place on Sunday May 26, 2019 and it is the 40th Anniversary of this very popular event.
