Waterfront Esplanade
An extension of the New Westminster Quay, the esplanade is the perfect place for a casual stroll along the water. Wander down the boardwalk while enjoying views of Queenborough and the Fraser River before checking out the Q to Q Ferry. Stop by the River Market at the east end of the quay for a post-walk snack or to say hi to Tinny, the World’s Largest Tin Soldier!

Tipperary Park & Friendship Gardens
Located beside City Hall, Tipperary Park is a gem nestled in the middle of the city. Grab a book and settle down in the shade next to the Friendship Garden pond or check out the tennis courts if you’re looking to stay active. The park is also home to the New West Farmers Market every Thursday throughout the spring and summer months.

Queen’s Park
Located in the centre of the city, Queen’s Park is New Westminster’s flagship park — and for good reason! With everything from sports fields, picnic tables, an off-leash dog area, a rose garden, a spray park, and an art gallery, this park truly has something for everyone. Lacrosse fans will also be excited to know that the Queen’s Park Arena, home to the New Westminster Salmonbellie’s, is located here.

Port Royal Riverfront Walk
A short ways away from Ryall Park is the Port Royal Riverfront Walk. Enjoy views of the Fraser River and Downtown New West from the Queenborough side while you walk past the quaint multicolored houses and gardens that skirt the trail. Continue towards Port Royal Park or Hop on the Q2Q Ferry to head back downtown.

Glenbrooke Ravine
An oasis in the city, Glenbrooke Ravine is one of the most underrated spots on this list. Enter via the main trailhead on Jamieson Ct. before exploring the gardens — complete with well-manicured flower beds and a pond, before continuing on your walk through the forested trails that lead towards Queen’s park.

Westminster Pier Park
Perched alongside the mighty Fraser River, Westminster Pier Park is conveniently located in the heart of Downtown New Westminster just a stone’s throw away from Columbia Skytrain Station. With basketball and volleyball courts, a spray park, picnic tables, a soft grassy field, and a concession stand in the summer, Pier Park is the perfect place to lounge just about any time of year. Don’t forget to check out the newly built playground located at the west end of the park near the Front St. Parkade entrance.

Sapperton Landing Park
Located on the less-traveled side of the Pattullo Bridge, Sapperton Landing Park is a winding 1km waterfront walk, complete with bridges and benches along the Fraser River. The landscaping includes backwater tidal channels and riparian woodlands that encourage wildlife habitats — making it the perfect place to escape the city.

Moody Park
Not only is Moody Park home to the New Westminster Lawn Bowling Club, but it also offers a ton of great outdoor amenities for those looking to stay active. Check out the baseball diamonds, basketball courts, tennis courts, the pool, or the playground, or grab a book from The New Westminster Public Library (located just around the corner) and settle down on one of the many benches throughout the park.

Ryall Park
Located in the heart of Queensborough, Ryall Park is the perfect park for a day-tripping adventure. On hot days kids will enjoy the spray park and playgrounds, and the Boro All Wheel Park next door is perfect for skateboards, BMX, and rollerblades. Take a break at one of the picnic tables or benches and fuel up for your next adventure.
