This summer, the FRDC is delighted to offer extra programming during long weekends with Summer Discovery Days! There’s so much to see and discover on these long summer days, and we hope you’ll join us!
The Fraser River Basin sustains a diverse population with various types of harvests and offers unique resources throughout the seasons.
This month, we’ll delve into the harvests offered by the river and explore their seasonal variations. Participate in a simulation activity of harvesting and weaving to understand how cedar is used by Indigenous communities across the Fraser River Basin. Join us for a story time about the language of seasons and do a beading activity. Also use a phenology wheel to learn about the seasonal changes related to harvests.
WHAT:
– Understand the importance of cedar for many First Nations throughout the river basin by learning about the steps of harvesting, preparing, and weaving through a simulation.
– Participate in a beading activity while reading a story about the language of seasons.
– Identify seasonal changes associated with harvest through a phenology wheel.
