Summer is in full swing, and with record-breaking temperatures, we know staying cool is on everyone’s minds. Here are a few tips to help you beat the heat in New West.
If you love frozen treats, New West is home to some delicious options. Rocky Point Ice Cream has amazing handcrafted flavours. Soft-serve fans should try Anny’s Dairy Bar — their Maple Twist is a classic! We also love a cold bubble tea or slushie too, check out local favourites Ninja Bubble Tea Express in the River Market, or Bobacabana at the Shops at New West. If you’re looking for shaved ice, check out Snowy Village in either Victoria Hill or the Shops at New West. Also check out the delicious artisan Johnny’s Popsicles, available at Hive Café.

What better way to cool down than to splash around in a spray park, water feature or a pool! Moody Park Outdoor Pool is a great place to swim and relax this summer. It includes a diving area, a climbing wall, and a spacious deck. Remember to book your spot online, as reservations are required. You can also cool down at one of New West’s local spray parks such as Hume Park, Moody Park, Old Schoolhouse Park Playground (Lazy River), Queen’s Park, Ryall Park, or Sapperton Park, as well as the Grimston Park Wading Pool.
New Westminster has many great parks and greenspaces which are perfect to relax at. Find a shady spot and get out of the heat! Head over to Glenbrook Ravine or Queen’s Park for their shaded & forested trails and pathways. Relax by the water, and enjoy the cool breeze of the Fraser River at Westminster Pier Park. If you’re looking for indoor activities with air conditioning, why not try a movie at Landmark Cinemas in New Westminster, or experience one of the many free exhibits at Anvil Centre? Learn about New Westminster’s history at the New Westminster Museum & Archives and the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame is perfect for sports lovers! Some of these are by appointment only, so please check their website before you plan to come!
