ReDiscover New West Retail

New Westminster may be small, but it’s definitely mighty! You may be familiar with the incredible restaurants and mouth-watering array of eateries packed in our 15.63 square kilometres, but how much do you know about our unique shops and artists?

The Arts Council of New Westminster, City of New Westminster, Downtown New West Business Improvement Association, New West Chamber, Tourism New West and the Uptown Business Association have joined together to help you #ReDiscoverNewWest. We want to reintroduce you to the retail gems nestled in our city and give you the chance to win some incredible prizes! Here’s a sampling of some of our favourite spots that help make New Westminster such a beautiful and bountiful city.

Looking for pre-loved treasures? New West is home to one of the last two plus-size consignment stores in the Lower Mainland; Grand Central Consignment has been around since 1976. They have a spectacular collection of vintage and modern-day clothes, shoes and accessories. Value Village, Treasure Chest Thrift Store and the Salvation Army are just a few other spots that offer discounted delights.

Looking to spruce up your home or neglected outdoor space? You’ll love Champagne Taste Home, they have a fantastic inventory of new, curated consignment, and custom furnishings that will transform your living space without draining your bank account. For your outdoor space, Chris’s Flowers will help you create a garden oasis in your backyard, balcony or on your windowsill. And if you’re still worried about your lacklustre Zoom background, check out the Arts Council’s Look Book for that pièce de résistance.

Looking to travel? While we stay close to home, we are fortunate that New West has stores that bring the world to us. Step into the Holland Shopping Centre, and you’ll immediately feel like you’ve been transported to the Netherlands. (They don’t sell windmills, but you can slide your feet into some new authentic clogs). Visit the Manilla BBQ Supermarket to explore and fill up your overflowing bayong with Filipino delicacies, like Pandesal and cassava chips. Don’t forget Galloways, where the air is fragrant with hard-to-find herbs and spices to help you create delicacies from the far-flung places on your travel bucket list.

Going green has never been easier. Wave goodbye to toxins and unnecessary waste thanks to The Refill Stop, which has a full range of plastic and package-free cleaning and personal goods. The Bulk Barn has every basic ingredient you need to re-stock your kitchen pantry, and you can bring your reusable containers.

These are just a handful of the diverse New West shops we’ll be talking about more in detail over the next month. Stay tuned for more blog posts, and follow #ReDiscoverNewWest for your discovery guide.
