The Gallery at Queen's Park: "The Legislature Series"

The Legislature Series comprises thirteen oil paintings, one for each Provincial and Territorial legislature building. The intersection of visual art and architectural representation is an area of investigation in Trevor’s art practice.

Conceptually, these paintings present a critical yet playful reading of the Legislature Buildings as seats of power in a time of cultural reckoning of the symbols of colonialism, where monuments are increasingly being questioned. These paintings ask, in their playful reimagining, that we approach these symbolic buildings of power with a critical lens. As such, each painting in its making and exhibiting is an act towards both a shared cultural and personal decolonization.
