Staycation New West, Ep. 3: Diverse Queensborough

Are you in need of a getaway? Well, the time is finally here to start your vacation close to home! We welcome you to New Westminster, the city with everything you need to plan the perfect getaway. Last week we explored Historic Sapperton, keep reading to find inspiration for the ultimate staycation in the diverse neighbourhood of Queensborough.

Queens Hotel is a historic boutique hotel located right in the heart of Queensborough. They have been serving the well-established and rapidly changing Queensborough neighbourhood since 1958, with a complete renovation in 2017.  Centrally located in Metro Vancouver, this property has easy access to Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby, and Surrey.  Queens Hotel is your home away from home.

Queensborough Landing is the place to go for shopping in New West. They offer a selection of stores ranging from fashion, home décor, and brand factory stores, to dining, and grocery options. Treat yourself to some retail therapy!

Queensborough offers two biking and skateboarding destinations. Located next to the Queensborough community center, the Boro All Wheel Park is a skateboard park that includes a full pipe, a pump track, and dirt jumps for beginner to intermediate level riders. The second destination is just behind Thompson’s Landing Park, located off South Dyke Road underneath the overpass. This intermediate dirt jump park is a perfect place to take it to the next level.

Along the water is the Queensborough boardwalk with stunning views of the Fraser River. This path is much quieter than the Quayside boardwalk, making it ideal for running and family bike rides. Be sure to stop and read about the history of Queensborough that is included at most viewpoints.

If you’re in search of some kids’ activities, Queensborough has some great playgrounds to keep you busy! Located right next to the Boro All Wheel park is Ryall Park, a spray park and playground with bathrooms, benches, and ample picnic space.

After all of those activities, you’re sure to be hungry. For a quick bite, grab a slice of pizza from Queensboro Pizza and New West Pizza. These pizza shops are right next to each other, so try a slice from both and decide which one is best!

Looking for a unique brunch option while staying Queensborough? Try out the Dim Sum at Kirin Restaurant at Starlight Casino. This elegant restaurant also has a lunch and dinner menu.

For dinner, you have to visit Rozzinis Restaurant. This family-run restaurant offers Greek, Italian, and Indian food– inspired by their favourite family recipes. Enjoy your meal inside or on their patio.

If you’re spending the day shopping at the outlets, stop at Tora Sushi for their specialty rolls, then enjoy a sweet treat at the Marble Slab Creamery where you can customize your ice cream to suit your fancy.

At Frankie G’s Pub, Chef Dante is serving up all favourites to go with your drinks, from chorizo poutine to steak sandwiches. Try out their house martinis’, like the Vitamin C or Pick Me Up, or taste their wide variety of draught beers. The restaurant itself displays the history of New West through its authentic nautical artifacts and photographs displayed throughout the space.

So go ahead, pack your overnight bag, grab your bike and your comfy shopping shoes and head over to Queensborough.

Check back next week for an epic Uptown New West adventure!
