The August long weekend may have come and gone, but there’s still a ton of fun stuff going on throughout New West to keep the summer fun going!
Check out these 5 exciting events happening around town this weekend!
1. Fridays on Front!
If you haven’t been down to Friday’s on Front yet…well lets just say you NEED to check it out! Every Friday night from 5-8pm the Downtown New West BIA shuts down the new Front Street Mews for a street party like you’ve never seen, and let me tell ya it just keeps getting better and better! This weeks exciting lineup includes the musical styling’s of Raincity Blue + Julian Paulo, as well as delicious eats from some of the lower mainlands favourite food trucks including Memphis Mike’s BBQ, Carte Diem, Brazilian Roots, Japadog, Porky’s & Meet 2 Eat. If that hasn’t sold you yet, let me also remind you that the Vegabond Bar Truck is serving up Steel & Oak beer and wine all night long. Seriously, you don’t want to miss it!
2. Summer Movie Series-Finding Dory
If a relaxing evening with family or friends is what your feeling, then look no further then an outdoor movie night! The City of New West, Derrick Thornhill, Park Georgia Realty, and G&F Financial Group have partnered together to present weekly movie nights at the Queen’s Park Stadium. Doors open at 7pm and the movie starts a dusk. Don’t forget to bring cash to grab some snacks from the Hyack Football Association concession. This weeks feature film is Finding Dory!
3. Cultural Crawl
Its the 14th annual New West Cultural Crawl! The Crawl is an annual arts & culture festival that celebrates and exhibits local New West talent. Whether you’re a veteran crawler or a first timer, plan your route and hit the trail to check out the over 30 events and venues across the city. P.S. It’s all free, and there’s even prizes to be won
4. PechaKucha New West
This Saturday catch volume 16 of PechaKucha New West! This exciting event originated in Tokyo, and showcases 10 presenters from all different backgrounds sharing their interesting projects, innovations, and passions. This Saturday’s presentation is taking place outdoors, at the Queen’s Park Bandshell. DJ Mutes Ito of Social Medium starts spinning at 6pm, and the show begins at 8pm, oh and Steel & Oak beer will be flowing! This event is free, however you must register ahead of time here.
5. FraserFEST Eco Tour
Celebrate the amazing Fraser River this weekend with an eco tour, as part of FraserFEST! This exciting annual festival aims to raise awareness and appreciation for this important waterway, by hosting family friendly events in riverside communities. Join the Fraser River Discovery Centre as they lead an eco tour, along the banks of the mighty Fraser. The tour is 2 hours in length, and begins at 11:30am on Saturday. Registration can be found here!
