72 Hours in New Westminster

Looking for a great three day adventure? Join us #WhereStoriesMeet and try our 72 hour adventure!

Day 1

What better way to start your trip than a visit to Front Street? Home to some of the oldest and most historic buildings of Western Canada’s original downtown, the mews is now home to charming coffee shops and several works of public art. While you’re there, pop into one of the local cafes for a pastry and a coffee to fuel up for your action-packed day.

Wander down to the Quay and hop on the Paddlewheeler Riverboat for one of their scenic, sightseeing cruises. Learn about the history and ecology of the mighty Fraser while you enjoy lunch with a view of New Westminster and other communities that line the river.

Hop off the boat and wander along the esplanade, enjoying the 1.3 km stretch of waterfront walkways. While you’re there, take a picture with the world’s largest tin soldier and enjoy the gardens and parks that line the paths. At the western end, follow the road across the overpass and drop by the Pacific Breeze Urban Winery’s tasting room for a flight of their hand-crafted, small-lot wines. For the beer lovers out there, head next door to Steel & Oak Brewing Co. for a pint or two of locally brewed craft beer.

Head up 12th Street for dinner at Indian Courtyard Restaurant. Known for their rich and aromatic dishes, Indian Courtyard has plenty of options for meat-eaters and vegans alike.

Day 2

Grab a coffee and a bite to eat at Craft Café (named one of the lower mainland’s best cafés by Vancouver Coffee Snob) before hopping on the Skytrain and heading over to Sapperton! Take a walk through New West’s oldest neighbourhood, stopping by Sapperton Landing, Glenbrook Ravine and the BC Penitentiary to take in the scenic views, hidden walkways and historic buildings that line the hillside overlooking the river.

Make your way back towards East Columbia for lunch at the Sapperton District Taphouse. Enjoy a flight of local beers on tap, with plenty of appies and plates to satisfy everyone. If you’re looking for a late lunch, their happy hour menu is available from 3 pm – 6 pm everyday.

After lunch, head next door for an afternoon at Capital City Arcade! Drop-in and enjoy their selection of classic and retro arcade games.

For Dinner, experience authentic flavours from Italy at L’Onore Pizza. Their oven-fired Neapolitan–style pizzas are sure to be a hit, and their rich and creamy Tiramisu is the perfect way to end an amazing meal. Feeling like an after-dinner stroll? Downtown New West is just a 20–minute walk away.

Day 3

Before heading home, check out Angelina’s Dutch Corner—one of New West’s most popular brunch spots. Arrive early and enjoy a pannekoek (or one of their many other brunch options) on their waterfront patio.

Next, discover local gems like Found Boutique, Mila + Paige, Good Omen, Antique Alley and more as you explore the streets of downtown New West.

Break for lunch with modern Mexican fare at El Santo. Their sustainable menu features West Coast ingredients and includes a great selection of classics and more adventurous options for seasoned foodies.

After lunch, wander Uptown for the afternoon and wander around the specialty shops of the district before making your way over to Queen’s Park neighbourhood—a charming community known for its picturesque heritage houses. Head towards the park and roam the 75 acres of walking trails, playgrounds and amenities including the Gallery at Queens Park, which highlights the work of local artists.

Head back to Uptown after exploring the park and stop by Co Chau for an authentic Vietnamese dining experience featuring fresh ingredients, rich flavours and a variety of vegetarian options. Finish off the day with an after-dinner treat from one of Uptown’s many dessert spots including Rocky Point Ice Cream,  Anny’s Dairy Bar  or  Kozak Ukranian Eatery.
